INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- To date almost 4,000 Indiana residents have sought advice from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) experts on repairing and rebuilding flood-damaged homes.
Mitigation specialists from FEMA's Community Education Outreach (CEO) program have been located at hardware and home improvement stores and Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in southern and central Indiana to answer residents' questions and to provide information on FEMA programs. Increasing numbers of people in flooded areas of Indiana are seeking out CEO team members for help in recovering from flood and storm damage.
Residents are getting advice on dealing with mold in flooded homes, elevating furnaces and appliances in basements to reduce future flood damage. In addition to staffing locations at home improvement and hardware stores, libraries and DRCs, FEMA mitigation teams are at county fairs.
"State and federal disaster recovery efforts will work only if people know what help is available and how to get it," Federal Coordinating Officer, Michael H. Smith said. "Our education outreach teams go where help is most needed and where they can meet as many people as possible."
