INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Hundreds of people packed the booth the first day FEMA's Hazard-Mitigation Road Show opened at Lowes on 25th street in Indianapolis. People flocked to the booth to get information for themselves, their friends and neighbors. The floods painfully demonstrated the need to build with Mother Nature in mind.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) urge everyone to plan for bad weather events by taking the opportunity to use building techniques that will protect property. FEMA's Hazard-Mitigation Road Show has specialists who can advise homeowners and builders on simple cost-saving techniques to use for rebuilding or new construction. Take home a wealth of material, and save a wealth of money by protecting your property from future disasters.

A recent study by the Multi-hazard Mitigation Council shows that each dollar spent on mitigation saves society an average of four dollars.

And did you know that homeowners are more likely to suffer loss due to a flood than a fire? The need for flood insurance is apparent after thousands of people suffered damage to their homes during the recent disaster. Information about FEMA's flood insurance program will be available at these road shows.
