Madison, Wis. -- In an ongoing effort to help residents recover from recent severe storms, flooding and tornadoes, state and federal officials announced the opening of a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Soldiers Grove, Crawford County. Officials with Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said the DRC will open on Wednesday.

"People are working hard to recover from this disaster.  I urge residents in Crawford County to visit the DRC in Soldiers Grove, meet with state, federal, and volunteer representatives and get the information they need to move forward from these difficult times," said Dolph Diemont.  As federal coordinating officer, Diemont leads the federal side of flood response and recovery efforts in Wisconsin.

WEM administrator Johnnie Smith said "We are pleased that our federal partners are able to provide assistance to those in need."

Officials plan to open DRCs in additional counties this week.

The DRC will begin operations at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, and will be open daily 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Residents affected by the severe storms and flooding that began on June 5 who plan to stop by the DRC are urged to register for assistance before their visit. Residents can register for assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 or visiting www.fema.gov on line. The registration line is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. until further notice. The call is free.

FEMA Mitigation specialists are scheduled to be on hand at the DRC to provide information and answer questions about cost-effective rebuilding and repair techniques to reduce property damage in future disasters.

Officers from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will also be available to answer questions about the SBA disaster-loan program and assist with disaster loan applications.  The SBA offers low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes to repair or replace damaged or destroyed property.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
