(Phoenix) – On Wednesday, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved the installation of a state-of-the-art flat-plate solar thermal system at the Desert Outdoor Center at Lake Pleasant (DOC).
The project, in cooperation with APS, is the first of its kind in Arizona, and one of a handful in the United States. The panel will provide solar energy for the DOC to run the heating and cooling system, reducing overall electrical consumption by over 25%. The manufacturer, S.O.L.I.D., will install and remotely monitor the unit.
APS plans to showcase this solar thermal air conditioning (STAC) system to other agencies interested in the technology. This system, scheduled for completion by April, uses no tax dollars to fund the initial project.
