#411Introduction to mAdb

Description:
Intended for new users, the lecture will introduce and demonstrate features of the NCI/CIT mAdb (microArray database) system. Developed by CIT in collaboration with the NCI's ATC Array Facility to provide a set of web-based analysis tools and a data management system for storing and mining gene expression data, the system allows registered users to upload and then analyze microArray data from NCI/NIAID/FDA produced (or other supported) microArrays. This class will emphasize typical analyses for new users with a limited number of arrays, such as using scatter plots, displaying outliers or selected genes, and examining pathways and gene functions.

For more in depth analysis of microarrays, see course 410 "Statistical Analysis of Microarray Data" and course 412 "Analyzing Microarray Data using the mAdb System". This class is specific to this system and is NOT a general microarray analysis course.

PowerPoint slides for this class are available.

Objectives:
Topics to be covered include
  • Overview of the mAdb system
  • Uploading your data
  • Sharing restricted data with others
  • Analyzing data using scatter plots, identifying outliers, and examining gene expression in a variety of pathways
  • Accessing clone/oligo descriptions on other systems
  • Downloading data for use in other programs
Who should attend:
Priority will be given to those using microarray prints from the NCI Gaithersburg (Advanced Technology Center, ATC) and Frederick microarray facilites, the NIAID Microarray Research Facility, and the FDA/CBER Microarray Center. Others interested in microarray analysis as space permits.
