HIV Awareness Activities This Week!

Next week is a week of important AIDS awareness activities. People in the AIDS community will be busy participating in some or all of the events described below. Take a moment out of your busy week to think about those you know or have known with HIV/AIDS. AIDSinfo thanks all of those who support the ongoing effort to battle this deadly disease.

International AIDS Candlelight Memorial—May 15th

On Sunday, May 15, 2005, communities around the world will come together to light candles and remember those who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. For more information on this memorial, see the May calendar (scroll down to May 15th) of the Office of Minority Health.

Vaccine Awareness Day—May 18th

For the eighth year, May 18th marks HIV Vaccine Awareness Day, when local and national events will highlight scientific efforts to develop an HIV/AIDS vaccine. Go to the AIDSinfo Vaccine Awareness Day page for more information.

First National Asian and Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day—May 19th

Plan to participate in the first National Asian and Pacific Islander (API) HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. This historic day focuses on the fight against HIV-related discrimination and the stigma HIV carries in the API communities. Click here for more information about this inaugural event. The Office of Minority Health Resource Center has also prepared an online API HIV Resource List, which contains links to API brochures, census data, HIV/AIDS reports, articles, and treatment information in a variety of Asian languages.
