Comparing Indicators of Each Scenario

The scenarios developed for this project illustrate a variety of current development approaches. The indicators will help you assess the results of some of those choices. This section compares eleven indicators – including estimated water consumption, infrastructure development costs, and total length of community paths and trails – that measure significant environmental, economic, and social differences between the three scenarios.

Environmental Indicators – Examine the impacts to natural resources resulting from each scenario.

Economic Indicators – View the estimated cost differences associated with developing each scenario. Then link to the detailed net revenue calculation worksheet for a step-by-step description of this important estimate, which factors the cost differences into potential revenue calculations for each scenario.

Social Indicators – Check out how different designs may affect the sense of community in a neighborhood.

Compare Your Own – Select a variety of indicators from any of the three categories above and see these measures compared across the scenarios.

There are three places to find indicator information for this project.

In this section, view a series of tables comparing and contrasting indicator results across the scenarios.

Within the tables, each indicator name is linked to an additional page of information with resources for learning more about that topic.

In the Project Methodology section, Indicator Methods provides further details about the specific calculations and assumptions made regarding each indicator in this project.

Clearly, this list of indicators is not all-inclusive. There are other important measures of comparison not considered in this project. Comparative assessments of vehicle miles traveled (VMT) and stormwater management techniques are good examples. Project partners may choose to undertake additional analyses at a later date. Currently, however, the scenarios are not drawn to the level of detail needed to measure differences in stormwater management methods such as natural swales and bioretention systems versus pipes and detention ponds infrastructure.
