FEMA Authorizes Assistance For Another Tennessee Wildfire

Washington, DC - The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized federal assistance to help Tennessee fight another wildfire outbreak located near the town of Pigeon Forge in Sevier County.
The state's request for federal fire management assistance was approved late yesterday after it was reported that the Ridge Crest fire posed a threat to more than 100 homes in the Ridge Crest Subdivision. The fire, which started last Monday, had burned about 1,000 acres at the time of the request.
The state was previously authorized for fire management assistance last week for the Chattanooga Complex Fire that threatened populated areas in the counties of Bledsoe, Grundy, Marion, Polk and Sequatchie.
Under the authorizations, FEMA will pay 75 percent of the state's eligible firefighting costs under an approved grant for managing, mitigating and controlling designated fires.
Federal fire management assistance is provided through the President's Disaster Relief Fund and made available by FEMA to assist in fighting fires when they threaten to cause a major disaster. Eligible state firefighting costs covered by the aid can include expenses for field camps; equipment use, repair and replacement; tools, materials and supplies; and mobilization and demobilization activities.
