Rabies Vaccination and spay/neuter clinics

MCACC’s Uno por Uno program is helping the community be a safer place and helping to lower the number of homeless pets in Maricopa County. And during these tough economic times, something free doesn’t hurt. There will be five free rabies vaccination clinics and two free spay and neuter clinics.

It is very important to vaccinate your pet against rabies. Rabies is an infectious viral disease that affects the nervous system of humans and other mammals. It is almost always fatal once symptoms appear. The most important global source of rabies in humans is from uncontrolled rabies in dogs. That can be eliminated through ensuring adequate animal vaccination and control, educating those at risk, and enhancing access of those bitten to appropriate medical care.

Rabies prevention starts with the animal owner.  Protect yourself, your pet and your community by taking animals to be vaccinated.  Avoid stray animals and wildlife.  If you are bitten, wash bite wounds with soap and water and seek medical attention immediately.  If your pet is bitten, consult your veterinarian immediately.  Prompt and appropriate treatment after being bitten and before the disease develops can stop rabies infection and/or prevent the disease in humans and animals. The rabies vaccination clinics run from 6:00 am – 9:00 am. Animals must be in good health and at least 3 months old.

In regards to spaying and neutering, Maricopa County has a huge pet overpopulation program. We are only the fourth largest county in the US, but we have the second largest municipal animal shelter. MCACC sees more than 55,000 dogs and cats every year!  Please spay and neuter your pets. Check in begins at 7:00 am and is first come, first serve. Show up early as the mobile unit can take an average of 20, depending on size. Do not give food or water to pets after 10:00 pm the night before the surgery. No hernias or cryptorchid males, pregnant or in-heat females. Animals must be at least two pounds.

For all clinics, dogs must be on a leash less than 6 feet in length and cats need to be in carriers.

So bring your dog and cat out and get them sterilized and help us in the battle against unwanted pets!

All clinics will be at:
