North Atlantic SST from MICOM

The Upper Ocean Thermal Center (UOTC) is a joint project between the Coupled Model Project of NMC (CMP), the Ocean Networks Branch of NOS (ONB) and the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML). UOTC's mission is to optimize NOAA's efforts in the collection, dissemination, analysis and modeling of global upper ocean thermal data for climate research and prediction.

Goals

  • Preserving the continuity and monitoring the performance of the current NOAA VOS-XBT network.
  • Augmenting and updating current UOT measurement capabilities through applied development and phased implementation of new technology.
  • Quality controlling delayed-mode XBT data.
  • Maintaining selected high density XBT lines with the intent of determining and monitoring the mesoscale seasonal to interannual variability of the upper ocean.
