Where to View the 1930 Census

The 1930 census and all existing Soundex indexes are available at the National Archives Building, 700 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, DC 20408-0001, at NARA's regional facilities around the country, at many public libraries, and for a fee at online commercial genealogy sites.

The 1940 and later censuses are not available for public use because of a statutory 72-year restriction on access for privacy reasons. (92 Stat. 915; Public Law 95-416; October 5, 1978).
