NEWINGTON, N.H. -- Briefings have been scheduled throughout New Hampshire to explain the application process to obtain federal assistance to supplement state and local governments’ costs for cleanup of two recent record or near-record snowfalls Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials announced today.

With President Bush’s March 30 emergency declarations, state agencies and local governments in 10 New Hampshire counties became eligible for federal funding to reimburse 75 percent of approved costs for equipment, contracts, and personnel overtime related to emergency services in dealing with the January 22-23 and February 10-11 snow storms.

The declaration for the January 22-23 storm will provide assistance for a period of 48 hours for Belknap, Carroll, Cheshire, Grafton, Hillsborough, Merrimack, Rockingham, Strafford and Sullivan counties. The second declaration for the February 10-11 storm provides assistance for a 72 hour period for Carroll, Cheshire, Coos, Grafton and Sullivan counties.

“Procedures for requesting assistance, including eligibility requirements and the reimbursement process, will be explained at a series of briefings to be held beginning next week,” said James N. Russo, federal coordinating officer for the event. “Applicants will be made aware of filing deadlines and the documentation necessary to receive all assistance available to them.”
