About Us
The CDC Washington Office designs strategies for complex public health issues & develops plans for the Agency's work with Congress and other Washington area organizations (agencies, private and non-profit, think tanks, and associations) to advance CDC's public health goals. The CDC Washington Office is part of the Office of the Director and acts as a liaison between CDC and the Washington policy community.
CDC/W represents the Agency in Washington to the Department of Health and Human Services and other federal agencies and partners. CDC/W is the primary office in CDC for receiving requests for health information and assistance with legislation from Congress. One of the Office's most important functions is educating Congressional offices about CDC accomplishments, collaborations, and state and local activities---as well as apprising them of important public health developments. CDC/W also informs Congressional offices about the full array of services that CDC provides through briefings and regular personal, telephonic and electronic communications. Finally, this office tracks legislation impacting CDC programs, and coordinates the preparation of CDC testimony and witnesses for hearings. Some of our activities include:
- Responding to inquiries regarding CDC's programs and services
- Providing quick access to public health experts
- Arranging briefings on public health issues
- Providing timely information of interest to policymakers
You may contact us for further information by calling 202.245.0600, or going to our CDC Washington contact guide. Our office is open Monday through Friday to respond to requests.
The general public can receive CDC's extensive consumer information through telephone hotlines and Web sites or by calling CDC at 1.800.311.3435. Consumers interested in current health information, travel tips, and CDC advisories should go to CDC's homepage.
