NHLBI Research Training Program for Predoctoral Students

For predoctoral students, the NHLBI provides the following research training programs:

• NIH Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Research
• Institutional National Research Service Award (T32)

For students enrolled in a combined MD/PhD program or currently a medical or graduate student seeking admission to a combined MD/PhD program:

• NHLBI Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA for Individual Predoctoral MD/PhD Fellows (F30)

For predoctoral students in health professional schools, the NHLBI has the following research training programs:

• Short-Term Institutional Research Training Grant (T35)
• NIH Summer Research Fellowship Program (Students in Medical and Dental School)

For students with disabilities and/or from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups the NHLBI provides five additional research training programs:

• Minority Institutional Research Training Program (T32)
• Research Supplements to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research for Graduate Research Assistants
• Biomedical Research Training Program for Individuals from Underrepresented Groups
• Individual Predoctoral Fellowships to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research (F31)
• Short-Term Research Education Program to Increase Diversity in Health-Related Research (R25)

The five programs expose talented predoctoral students who are pursuing an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree to opportunities available in biomedical and behavioral research.
