Gifts to the Nation: Selected Acquisitions from the Collections of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon

Overview: More than 90 paintings, watercolors, prints, and drawings were selected from the 822 works by European and American artists given to the National Gallery by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon over a period of 21 years, from 1964 to their latest donation of 186 works in 1985. Gaillard Ravenel and Mark Leithauser designed the exhibition and Gordon Anson designed the lighting.
