Ike Update: Assistance To Texas Grows By $17 Million In One Week

AUSTIN, Texas -- Federal and state assistance to help Texans recover from Hurricane Ike continues to grow, with more than $17 million added to recovery assistance this week, bringing the total assistance in Texas to more than $1.8 billion.

The Texas Governor's Division of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), partners in the state's disaster recovery, provide the following summary of assistance approved as of March 26:

FEMA leads and supports the nation in a risk-based, comprehensive emergency management system of preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation, to reduce the loss of life and property and protect the nation from all hazards including natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made disasters.
