HOW TO BECOME A CONTRIBUTOR

The Obituary Daily Times is a daily index of published obituaries. It is distributed FREELY, often twice a day by email, and usually has over 2500 entries a day. You can search the database anytime with the search engine above.

The Obituary Daily Times mailing list is intended mostly (but not only) for Family Historians, researchers and compilers (ex. researching all of ONE FAMILY). The Obituary Daily Times is an index of published obituaries across the world. Regular contributors (volunteers) can request information about particular obituaries between themselves.

WE DO NOT HAVE THE ACTUAL OBITUARIES. Regular volunteers may request a particular copy from each other. For others, GEN-OBIT is an easy way to find a publication date of an obit. You can then refer to the newspaper to get a copy of it (at the library or directly with the newspaper itself).

You can subscribe through email Rootsweb by sending a message to: GEN-OBIT-L-request@rootsweb.com no subject is needed. In the body of the note write the single word: Subscribe   (Please turn off any signature lines that you may be using when writing to this address.  The autorobot does not recognize them as such and may not process your request to join).

Please note that if you are using JUNO, or other similar email only service, please DO NOT send a message to Rootsweb. Instead, send one to Walter Styles  and ask him to add you to his Juno list. Our daily message is much larger than JUNO will accept through the listserve. Instead, we at The Obituary Daily Times maintain our own mailing list for JUNO subscribers and send out the mailing in smaller pieces that Juno will accept.

HOW TO BECOME A CONTRIBUTOR

Being a contributor implies a few very simple tasks:

 a) Submitting an index of your local paper's obituaries

 b) Occasionally answering a query for more information on an obituary you have indexed. (You should keep the obituaries for at least a 90 days after they appear in The Obituary Daily Times). Queries are answered via email. This means typing the obituary in it's entirety and emailing it off to the requestor. And then you will have access to obituary information across the world!
