School Health Programs: Improving the Health of Our Nation's Youth [pdf 3.0MB]
Success Stories from the Field [pdf 1.0MB]

Mission
DASH promotes the health and well-being of children and adolescents to enable them to become healthy and productive adults.

School Health Programs
Establishing healthy behaviors during childhood is easier and more effective than trying to change unhealthy behaviors during adulthood. Schools play a critical role in promoting the health and safety of young people and helping them establish lifelong healthy behavior patterns:

  • Each school day is an opportunity for the nation’s 56 million students to learn about health and practice the skills that promote healthy behaviors.

  • The nation’s 126,000 schools provide many opportunities for students to practice healthy behaviors such as eating healthy foods and participating in physical activity.
