Abstract: (CIT): The availability of high-quality biospecimens, collected according to the highest ethical standards, is critical to supporting development of new genomic- and proteomic-based cancer interventions. Recognizing the need to unify and standardize biospecimen resource practices, the NCI will soon publish NCI Best Practices for Biospecimen Resources, which outlines the technical, operational, ethical, legal and policy best practices supporting the collection and use of biospecimens. NCI has initiated an education and outreach program targeted at the scientific and advocacy communities. These forums will provide information about the importance of best practices in guiding biospecimen use, the operational and ethical standards in the NCI Best Practices, and resources for achieving high-quality and accessible biospecimens.
