THE FOLLOWING IS THE PRELIMINARY DAMAGE ASSESSMENT FOR A TORNADO
TOUCHDOWN THAT OCCURRED THURSDAY EVENING...APRIL 30TH 2009...IN
NORTHERN CALLOWAY COUNTY KENTUCKY.

* EVENT DATE - THURSDAY APRIL 30 2009

* EVENT TIME - 744 PM CDT /RADAR ADJUSTED/

* EVENT TYPE - EF0 TORNADO

* EVENT LOCATION - 7 MILES NORTHEAST OF MURRAY OR 2 MILES
SOUTHEAST OF ALMO...ALONG AND NORTHEAST OF HIGHWAY 464.

* PEAK WIND - 80 MPH

* AVERAGE PATH WIDTH - 40 YARDS

* PATH LENGTH - 3/4 MILE

* INJURIES - NONE

* FATALITIES - NONE

* DISCUSSION/DAMAGE - SEVERAL TREES OR TREE LIMBS BLOWN DOWN AND
ONE LARGE OAK TREE UPROOTED. MINOR DAMAGE TO SIDING ON A HOME.
ONE EYEWITNESS OF TORNADO.

TORNADO TOUCHDOWN THAT OCCURRED THURSDAY EVENING...APRIL 30TH
2009...IN THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF GRAVES COUNTY KENTUCKY.

* EVENT DATE - THURSDAY APRIL 30 2009

* EVENT TIME - 711 PM CDT /RADAR ADJUSTED/

* EVENT TYPE - EF0 TORNADO

* EVENT LOCATION - 0.2 MILES EAST OF HIGHWAY 97 ON HWY 1270 IN
EXTREME SOUTHEAST GRAVES COUNTY KENTUCKY.

* PEAK WIND - 75 MPH

* AVERAGE PATH WIDTH - 40 YARDS

* PATH LENGTH - N/A - BRIEF TOUCHDOWN

* INJURIES - NONE

* FATALITIES - NONE

* DISCUSSION/DAMAGE - BRIEF TORNADO TOUCHDOWN IN A GROVE OF TREES.
MINOR DAMAGE TO A FEW TREES.

701 pm CDT KPAH Reflectivity shows a mini supercell heading toward southeast Graves County KY.

701 PM CDT KPAH Storm Relative Velocity shows very weak rotation with this storm. You will notice there are two circulations. The southern circulation is the one that will go on to produce the brief touchdown.

706 PM CDT KPAH Reflectivity shows the mini supercell moving northeast into southeastern Graves County KY.

706 PM CDT KPAH Storm Relative Velocity continues to show very weak rotation. Again the southern circulation will be the one that produces the touchdown.

711 PM CDT KPAH Reflectivity showing the storm affecting southeastern Graves County, KY.

711 PM CDT KPAH Storm Relative Velocity shows the rotational couplet has strengthened a little. This is the time of the brief tornado touchdown. No damage was reported with the northern circulation north of Lynnville, KY.

More tree damage. One tree in this area was snapped and is laying in the grass.

 

There were two eyewitnesses to the storm. One eyewitness saw the tornado briefly touch down in this grove of trees. He said it briefly touched down in the trees and then quickly lifted. The other eyewitness was further down the road on Hwy 1270 and did not see the touchdown, but was able to see the wall cloud as it passes by their house.
