Alexei Morozov, Ph. D.
Alexei Morozov Photo Dr. Morozov obtained an M.S. in Biochemistry from Lomonosov Moscow State University and received Ph. D from the University of Illinois at Chicago. During postdoctoral training with Eric Kandel at Columbia University, he employed conditional genetic manipulations to study mechanisms of neuronal plasticity, learning, and memory. Dr. Morozov joined NIMH as an investigator in 2002 to establish the Unit on Behavioral Genetics
Research Interests
Fear and aggression are necessary for survival, but may become maladaptive during mental disorders. Our aim is to understand how fear and aggression are regulated at the level of specific neuronal circuits, and we approach this aim by studying mice where brain circuitry responsible for defensive behaviors is altered pharmacologically, through region-restricted mutations, or during natural development of the brain. Parallel analyses of behavioral, molecular, and synaptic changes in these models allow us to find potential targets for control of pathological aggression and fear.
