Births: Preliminary Data for 2007 PDF (3/30/09)
The preliminary estimate of births in 2007 rose 1 percent to 4,317,119, the highest number of births ever registered for the United States. Increases occurred within all race and Hispanic origin groups and for nearly all age groups.

Nail Salon Table Evaluation (3/30/09)
CDC is undertaking a unique research project to examine the effectiveness of different vented nail tables in removing potential exposures from the work area used by persons employed in nail salons. NIOSH is requesting that developers, manufacturers, and vendors of VNTs submit new, unused, downdraft VNTs for a free evaluation.

1999-2005 United States Cancer Statistics: Incidence and Mortality (3/30/09)
The report features information on more than one million cases of cancer diagnosed in 2005 among residents of 48 states, 6 metropolitan areas, and the District of Columbia- geographic areas in which about 96% of the U.S. population reside.

Cigarette Brand Preference among Middle and High School Students Who Are Established Smokers- United States, 2004 and 2006 (3/30/09)
This report indicates that among established student smokers in middle and high school, Marlboro was the preferred brand (43.3% and 52.3%, respectively), followed by Newport (26.4% and 21.4%, respectively). Brand preference differed by sex among middle and high school students: 49.6% of female smokers in middle school used Marlboro cigarettes, compared with 54.5% of high school female smokers.

Easy Read Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness
In 2006, nearly 15,000 or more than a quarter of new HIV cases in the United States were among women and girls ages 13 years and older. Women of color are especially impacted by the disease. If you have never had an HIV test, or if your last HIV test was some time ago, please get yourself tested again. CDC's Injury Research Agenda: 2009-2018
The Injury Research Agenda pinpoints nine areas where additional research can have the greatest impact on preventing injuries and violence and controlling their debilitating effects. It addresses injuries at home and in communities; injuries occurring during sports, recreation and exercise; traumatic brain injuries; transportation- related injuries; intimate partner violence and sexual violence; child maltreatment; suicidal behavior; youth violence; and acute care.
