Two Weeks Left To Register For FEMA Disaster Assistance

Lenexa, KS -- Residents and business owners in Anderson, Allen, Cherokee, Crawford, Douglas, Haskell, Labette, Lawrence, Meade, Miami, Neosho, Osage, Seward, Woodson and Wyandotte counties, who sustained damage from tornadoes in May, have two more weeks to apply for disaster assistance. July 7 is the last day applications will be accepted. That is also the deadline for submitting loan applications to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for disaster-related losses to real and personal property.
"For individuals who have already applied to FEMA for disaster assistance, their cases will continue to be processed. As of July 7, we won't be accepting any new applications," said Federal Coordinating Officer Mike Hall.
Federal and state disaster recovery officials urge those who have not done so to apply as soon as possible by calling the toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Hearing- or speech-impaired individuals may call the TTY registration number at 1-800-462-7585.
If the primary residence on a farm or ranch was damaged or destroyed by the recent disaster, state and federal assistance may be available by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Agri-business losses are not covered by FEMA programs.
Farmers and ranchers can apply for assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency (FSA). For information on FSA programs, individuals should contact their local county offices.
To date, 1,314 individuals have applied for disaster assistance in the state. Nearly $1.8 million has been distributed to individuals impacted by the disaster. The SBA has also distributed nearly $6.5 million in disaster loans to individuals and businesses that suffered damages due to the tornado.
