Plaquemines Parish: North

Alternative Arrangements E-mail updates

The northern part of Plaquemines Parish is home to the majority of the parish population; a more sparsely settled area lies to the south, where maritime and oil-gas industries dominate along the Mississippi River and the coastal wetlands.  Nearly 75 percent of the parish employment base is in the northern area, a diverse business environment of industry, trade, and services. Only a third of the labor force commutes to jobs elsewhere in Greater New Orleans.

Woodlawn Communication Tower

Communication Tower in Plaquemines ParishDuring Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath, the communications tower in Plaquemines Parish was destroyed. The Parish Council decided to replace the original structure with a new 450-foot-tall tower in a different location. The new broadcast tower would be equipped with better communications technology, designed to withstand a greater wind load, and will be located to achieve the best radio signal. This project is being considered under Alternative Arrangements because it involves an improved project that changes the footprint of the tower and increases its size.

You can find additional project information as well as view the Woodlawn communication tower project on a map, using the Alternative Arrangements Mapping Application.
