United States Marshal Randy P. Ely

U.S. Marshal Randy P. Ely U.S. Marshal Randy P. Ely Randy Ely began his term as United States Marshal for the Northern District of Texas on June 3, 2002. Although new to the Marshals Service, he is not new to law enforcement. He began his career as a civilian traffic cadet in 1970 at the Fort Worth Police Department. Later having attended their training academy in 1972, he was commissioned as an officer March 3, 1973.

U.S. Marshal Ely had worked in most every major area of the Fort Worth Police Department. In 1978 he was promoted to Detective, 1980 to Sergeant, 1982 to Lieutenant, 1987 to Captain, and to Deputy Chief in 1997. He served as Deputy Chief until his eventual retirement after 31.5 years of service with the Fort Worth Police Department. USM Ely was actively involved with two field commands, both having Weed and Seed programs. He also has had responsibility for Special Operations (SWAT, Narcotics, Gang) and Criminal Investigations on several occasions. He also served 14 months as an undercover narcotics officer.

U.S. Marshal Ely was twice selected as Fort Worth's Command Officer of the Year at the annual Public Safety Banquet and once as Officer of the Year by a local American Legion group.

U.S. Marshal Ely has been actively involved in civic, business and charitable endeavors in the community and he has also taken on additional law enforcement leadership roles.

 

He served as President of the 5,000 member Texas Police Association in 2001/2002 and was President of the 15,000 member FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. during 2000. The FBINAA encompasses membership in over 125 member countries. During his tenure, U.S. Marshal Ely represented the United States in a historic unification police conference in Belfast and Dublin, Ireland.

U.S. Marshal Ely is proud to be part of the nation's oldest and most prestigious law enforcement organization and considers the accomplishment to be the crown jewel in his lengthy law enforcement career.

According to Marshal Ely, he is part of one of the finest managed operations he has seen in some time and has found the efforts of staff in the Northern District to just be outstanding! He is proud to be affiliated with such an outstanding group of professionals and hope that he is able to contribute in some small way to their successes.
