Columbia, SC – Following a four-year tradition
of success in its national efforts, the U.S.
Marshals Service locally conducted another
successful Operation FALCON (Federal and Local Cops
Organized Nationally) from June 22 -June 28. Led by
the U.S. Marshal Service, Operation FALCON is a
nationwide law enforcement effort.
Operation FALCON 2008–South Carolina combined the
collective efforts of multiple law enforcement
agencies in one of the state’s largest-ever fugitive
initiatives, focusing on capturing individuals
wanted on felony charges including gang members, sex
offenders and fugitives wanted for crimes of
violence. Over the course of the seven-day
operation, Deputy U.S. Marshals, teamed with
federal, state, and local law enforcement partners,
arrested 471 fugitives – including 37 sex offenders
and four homicide suspects - and cleared 779
warrants. Ten firearms were also recovered.
Two unlucky fugitives were arrested in the same
residence within minutes of one another. Adrian
Davis and Nelson Greene were both located hiding
inside a residence on Washington Street in Hemingway
on June 25. Davis, 31, was wanted by the South
Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon
Services for a probation violation. He was located
hiding under the covers of a bed. Greene, 29, was
the subject of federal drug warrants and was located
after he attempted to flee from law enforcement
through a window. Both were taken into custody
without further incident and booked into the
Williamsburg County Jail awaiting court proceedings.
“This operation, along with our past FALCON efforts,
shows that law enforcement in South Carolina can
work together at the highest levels,” said Johnny
Mack Brown, U.S. Marshal for the District of South
Carolina. “When we share information and pool our
resources toward a common goal, South Carolina is an
even safer place to live.”
Operation FALCON – South Carolina combined the
efforts of 53 federal, state, and local law
enforcement agencies.
Since its inception in 2005, Operation FALCON has
made over 36,500 arrests and cleared over 45,300
warrants. It continues to be the largest and most
successful fugitive apprehension effort in U.S.
Marshals history.
