Brief Description:
You can learn more about Paget's Disease by checking out the topic on the website NIHSeniorHealth.gov.

Transcript:
AKINSO: Our bodies are constantly replacing old bone with new bone. However, for a person who has a condition known as Paget's disease, old bone is broken down and replaced at a faster rate than normal, resulting in bone pain, fractures and arthritis in the joints near the affected bones. An estimated one million older Americans are affected by this disease. You can learn more by checking out the Paget's disease topic on the website NIHSeniorHealth.gov. Doctor Frederick Singer, Director of the Endocrine/Bone Disease Program at John Wayne Cancer Institute said information about diagnosis and treatment that can stop or slow the disease's progression is easily accessible on the website.

SINGER: The NIH Senior Health website on Paget's disease is excellent. It can provide accurate and up to date information on all aspects of Paget's disease. It is relatively easy to understand and therefore is of considerable use for any individual who chooses to use the website.

AKINSO: The NIH Senior Health website was jointly developed by the National Institute on Aging and the National Library of Medicine for older adults and their families. Once again the website is www.NIHSeniorHealth.gov. This is Wally Akinso at the National Institutes of Health Bethesda, Maryland.
