Overview
The security and privacy of taxpayer and employee information is one of the Service's highest priorities. As such, the Office of Privacy, Information Protection and Data Security was formed in July 2007 to provide a centralized privacy program that combined responsibility for all of the major privacy programs under one office. 

The PIPDS organization promotes public confidence through the protection of the taxpayer's personally identifiable information, such as name and Social Security number, and the prevention of threats and vulnerabilities. The organization also ensures Servicewide integrity by proactively providing leadership, policy guidance, direction and awareness for the Service’s privacy program areas. PIPDS is also responsible for protecting information systems used for tax administration from unauthorized access, disruption and modification.
