Healthy Debate: The Availability of Emergency Contraception The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York ruled in late March the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) did not properly evaluate whether or not the emergency contraceptive (EC) Plan B should be made available over-the-counter. The court ordered the FDA to extend over-the-counter access to Plan B to 17 year olds and to reconsider making it available without a prescription for those younger.
