Digital Coast

Digital Coast Details

The Digital Coast was envisioned as an information delivery system that could efficiently serve not only data, but also the training, tools, and examples needed to turn data into useful information. In this way, the Digital Coast is designed to play a pivotal role in ensuring the wise use and management of coastal resources.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center launched the site in 2008 and continues to lead the Digital Coast effort. While phase one focused on content provided by the NOAA Coastal Services Center, subsequent phases are adding content from other sources. These sources include NOAA, as well as other federal organizations, state and local governments, and the private and nonprofit sectors.

About the Partners

An important part of the Digital Coast is the partnership network, the guiding team that represents user groups and content providers.

The partner network identifies Digital Coast priorities and then works together to address coastal issues. One of the goals behind the creation of the Digital Coast was to unify groups that might not otherwise work together. This partnership concept is building not only a website, but also a strong collaboration of coastal professionals intent on addressing coastal conservation needs.

The Digital Coast partnership appreciates the financial support in 2008 from the Mississippi Coordinating Council for Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems.
