The NIOSH Office of Compensation Analysis and Support (OCAS) conducts activities to assist claimants and support the role of the Secretary of Health and Human Services under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act of 2000 (The Act).

Each month we will be featuring a FAQ that captures comments and concerns that we sometimes receive from claimants. Additional FAQs on a variety of topics similar to the one listed below can be found on our FAQ page.

  • How can I get the status of my case?

    While your case is with NIOSH for dose reconstruction, you can obtain the current status of your case in one of the following ways:


    • Complete the on-line Current Status Request Form located on the Status of Your Dose Reconstruction page of our Web site to instantly retrieve a general case status report:

      1. Enter your NIOSH Tracking Number on the Current Status Request Form.

      2. Click on the "Submit Request for Status Report" button. The information we have for your claim will be displayed at the top of the page.

    • Submit an on-line request to have a more detailed case status report mailed to you:

      1. Complete the on-line Current Status Request Form per the instructions above.

      2. Complete the Requestor and Claim Information sections on the Detailed Status Request Form located at the bottom of the page.

      3. Click on the "Submit Request for Detailed Status Report" button. A detailed status report will be generated and mailed to the address that we have on file in our system.

    • Send an e-mail request at ocas@cdc.gov

    • Contact NIOSH directly at 513-533-6800

    • Contact NIOSH toll-free at 1-877-222-7570

    • Contact a NIOSH Public Health Advisor (PHA) directly. PHAs are assigned to cases based upon the Department of Labor (DOL) District Office where you originally filed your claim:

      • Jacksonville, FL:     (513) 533-8425

      • Cleveland, OH:       (513) 533-8423

      • Denver, CO:           (513) 533-8426

      • Seattle, WA:           (513) 533-8424

OCAS News

  • NIOSH AWARDS CONTRACT FOR SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT OF EEOICPA RESPONSIBILITIES

    NIOSH awarded a contract for support of NIOSH activities under EEOICPA to a team led by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU), based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. ORAU and its partners, Dade Moeller & Associates, Inc., and MJW Technical Services Inc., provide services to NIOSH OCAS in the following areas: database management; data collection related to claims and petitions; dose reconstruction research; claimant interviews; dose estimation and reporting; and technical and program management support. The contract awarded on April 27, 2009, is the second contract awarded to the ORAU team to support EEOICPA activities. The contract is designed as a one-year contract with four one-year options, and is for approximately $30 million per year. It is a competitive award based on technical and business proposals by the responding companies.
