FEMA's Manufactured Housing Program Available To Qualified Tornado Applicants

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Delaware County residents affected by the March 12th tornado and storm may be eligible to receive a manufactured home temporarily placed on their property, according to officials with the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM).
"These units are available where there is a housing shortage to provide homeowners with a safe, sanitary and functional place to live while making repairs to their homes," he said. "They are temporary units and are not intended as a permanent housing solution."
OEM and FEMA continue to work toward permanent housing plans for all those displaced by the March 12th tornado and storm. "This is another important step forward in providing all available federal and state assistance to Delaware County residents impacted by the storm," said State Coordinating Officer Kathleen Shingledecker.
Applicants must meet all three of the following criteria in order to be eligible for this temporary housing program:
- The home has already been inspected by a FEMA damage inspector;
- The home sustained major damage or was destroyed; and
- There must be private property on which the temporary manufactured home can be placed.

Anyone with damages and losses caused by the tornado is urged to register for assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) [the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585 for those who are speech or hearing-impaired] from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week. Multilingual operators are available to answer your call. An application may also be made online at www.fema.gov, 24 hours a day.
The deadline to apply for all forms of disaster assistance is June 12, 2006.
FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program.
