FLETC Hosts Joint Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony

May 23, 2007

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) held its 22nd annual ceremony today honoring those FLETC graduates who have lost their lives in the performance of duty.  The ceremony is a joint observance with other area law enforcement agencies in southeast Georgia, including Brunswick Police Department, Glynn County Police Department and Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol.

The keynote speaker was The Honorable Glenn A. Fine, Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Justice.

The ceremony included the reading of the FLETC graduates honor roll of names by Mr. Billy R. Brooks of the FLETC Deputy Director’s Office.  Brunswick Police Department Chief Edna H. Johnson read the State and Local agencies honor roll.  Included in this year’s state reading is Georgia State Patrol Corporal Michael D. Young.  In addition to the reading of the honor roll, vocal presentations, posting of the Colors, a ceremonial wreath laying, lowering of flags to half staff; and the playing of Taps were included in the program.  FLETC staff, representatives from the agencies with fallen officers in 2006 and the U.S. Navy Subase Kings Bay Color Guard participated in this solemn ceremony.

This year, four names were added, bringing the total to 152 since the FLETC’s creation in 1970:  Nicholas D. Greenig and David N. Webb, U. S. Customs and Border Protection, Border Patrol; Daniel J. Kuhlmeier, U. S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations; William "Buddy" Sentner, U.S. Department of Justice Office of Inspector General.  For further information and a full listing of the FLETC Graduate Memorial, visit http://www.fletc.gov/about-fletc/fletc-graduates-memorial/ .
