Belle Chasse Disaster Recovery Center Reopens

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Belle Chasse Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) located at the Belle Chasse Branch Library at 8442 Hwy. 23, Belle Chasse, has reopened. The DRC was originally closed due to maintenance issues on May 25.

All DRC's operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and are closed on Sundays.

Applicants may access information by calling the Helpline at 1-800-621-3362. Hearing-or speech- impaired individuals may call 1-800-462-7585. Both numbers are available from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.

Representatives of state and federal agencies, as well as customer service representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration, are on hand to answer questions and provide recovery information. No cash, checks, debit cards or vouchers are distributed at Disaster Recovery Centers. These centers are for the dissemination of information to assist in victim recovery. Written materials about various state and federal programs are also available to individuals and business owners.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
