Naval Construction Battalion Center The Davisville Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) site, contaminated with PCBs, PAHs, and inorganics, is adjacent to Narragansett Bay and Allen Harbor, Rhode Island. This area is of special concern because it supports commercial and recreation fisheries. NOAA played a key role in actively pursuing remediation and habitat restoration activities in sites that border Allen Harbor.
OR&R Budget Overview For the past four years, OR&R's annual appropriation has been 30 percent less than the President's budget request. These budget cuts continue to affect OR&R's ability to execute its core mission responsibilities.
Restoration at City of Baytown, Texas Negotiations between the resource agencies and the French Limited Trust Group (representing all the responsible parties) settled on the creation of 25 acres of intertidal wetlands in the San Jacinto floodplain as appropriate compensation for natural resource injuries.
Restoration in Galveston Bay, Texas On July 28, 1990, approximately 694,000 gallons of catalytic feedstock (a type of oil) was released into the Houston Ship Channel/Galveston Bay from two barges that were struck by a passing tanker.
Restoration in Marysville, Washington The Snohomish River Estuary, located in Marysville, WA, is the planned site for restoration work to be implemented as compensation for natural resource damages incurred at the Tulalip Landfill Superfund Site. Led by NOAA, USFWS, the State of Washington's Department of Ecology, and the Tulalip Tribes (responsible owners of the Site), an initial Restoration Plan was drafted in October 1998. This plan calls for approximately 360 acres of habitat to be restored to a thriving salt marsh community within this important watershed. A site for land acquisition has been chosen and most of the land to be restored has been acquired.
