This is a BIG year for the National Archives as we celebrate our 75th Anniversary and the dedication of our new facility. The renovated Adams Express building will serve as the new home of the National Archives at Kansas City. We are delighted to be located within the historic Union Station cultural district, and in the heart of Kansas City at 400 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
To commemorate this significant occasion, please join us for the dedication events Memorial Day weekend, May 22–23, 2009.
- Friday, May 22, 10 a.m.–noon is the official
dedication with remarks by Acting Archivist of the United States Adrienne
Thomas. See
the flier.
- Saturday, May 23, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. is an open house and history/genealogy fair. Clifton Truman Daniel, grandson of former President Harry S. Truman, will be the guest speaker. Performances by the 312th Army band will precede and follow his remarks. Tours of the new facility and exhibits, It’s Big! and The Kansas-Nebraska Act, will be available, along with fun activities for the entire family.
In addition, plan to visit The Kansas City Store at the National Archives and consider taking home a souvenir. The Kansas City Star, will operate the gift shop in the new facility.
As a supporter of the National Archives at Kansas City, we hope you will join us. Questions can be answered at 816-268-8000 or kansascity.archives@nara.gov.
