- @ Sea
The sea is a place of drama. A ship rolls in a savage storm, probing the ocean's mysteries. A submersible sits three thousand feet deep, enveloped in crushing darkness. Nowhere on earth does humankind feel more deeply the humbling power of our planet. @Sea, an ambitious project of the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution's Media Lab, provides a glimpse into this exciting ocean world. Combining the skills of a dedicated group of media mixers, @Sea blurs the boundaries between journalism and education, computer and documentary. Using the tools of today's technology -- satellite communications, digital cameras, and rugged laptops -- online correspondents cover these extraordinary stories, offering an online window into life at sea and the ceaseless quest of science.
- Seagrass Ecosystems Research Laboratory
There are over 10,000 km2 of seagrass beds in south Florida. In the Seagrass Ecosystems Research Laboratory at Florida International University, we are engaged in basic and applied research into the structure and function of seagrass beds and the food webs that they support. At this web site you will find information on the biology and ecology of seagrasses, current research projects, and classes taught by the SERL staff. The Seagrass Ecosystems Research Lab is a component of the Southeast Environmental Research Program at FIU.
