BUFKIT is a forecast profile visualization and analysis tool kit developed by the staff at the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Buffalo and the Warning Decision Training Branch (WDTB) in Norman, OK. BUFKIT is used in the public, private, and educational meteorological sectors in both the US and Canada.  BUFKIT is available to anyone who is interested in the analysis of forecast hourly profiles.

 

BUFKIT Release in Support of
Distance Learning Aviation Course Phase 2 (DLAC 2)

This package includes the following:
  1. The latest version of BUFKIT (Sept. 2008)
  2. Archived data specifically for usage with the DLAC 2 Simulation for 18 June 2006
Installation
  1. Download the DLAC-2 BUFKIT zip file by CLICKING HERE.
  2. Unzip the file into a temporary directory.
  3. Run the program "setup.exe"
  4. This setup program will install Bufkit and all the needed support and data files.

  1. One quick and easy place to go for nationwide profiles is the PSU Profiles Page.


 

BUFKIT Release in Support of
Advanced Warning Operations Course Winter Weather Track (AWWT)

This package includes the following:
  1. BUFKIT 4 - Build 71.78
  2. Archived data specifically for usage with the AWWT Jobsheets and for the AWWT IC 8 Simulations
  3. BufGet with an example profile
  4. Version 2 AWWT Jobsheets for IC 6 Lessons 2 and 5 PDFs.
Installation
  1. Download the AWWT BUFKIT zip file by CLICKING HERE.
  2. Unzip the file into a temporary directory.
  3. Run the program "setup.exe"
  4. This setup program will install Bufkit and all the needed support and data files.
Running Bufkit for AWWT
  • Click on the Windows Start button, then click on "Programs -> BUFKIT_AWWT_Simulations_Release_2
  • Your Options are then:
    1. Load BUFKIT in support of the jobsheets or the AWWT simulation: Click BUFKIT_AWWT_Simulations_Release_2
    2. Load BufGet to import your own BUFKIT profiles: Click BufGet
    3. Load either of the AWWT jobsheets in a separate window: Click IC 6.2 Jobsheet or IC 6.5 Jobsheet

  • WORD OF CAUTION: Do not copy in your configuration file from your previous BUFKIT build. This file has chanced with 4.71, so any edits should be made on the config file that comes with this package.
  • Bufkit4 Build 71   (AWOCWW BUFKIT Release) Provides:
  • Snow ratio calculations in the time/height window
  • Proper RH treatment for snowfall estimation
  • Specific elevated layers on the hodograph
  • Support for NAM and any other profile name conventions
  • Bug fixes
