Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU)
A select group of ten interns received a welcome from the National Archives Archivist of the United States, Allen Weinstein, and other National Archives senior officials at a breakfast reception at the National Archives in Washington, DC.

"You've got an extraordinary set of opportunities," Archivist Weinstein told the interns at the reception. "Some of you will become archivists. Those of you who don't will look back at this summer and realize the benefits that you gained from working here."

The National Archives welcomed the HACU interns at a June 4 reception. The interns were sponsored by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) National Internship Program.
HACU is a national non-profit higher education agency, founded in 1986, that represents Hispanic-serving institutions. The goal of the HACU National Internship program is to give college-educated students from underrepresented groups an opportunity to develop professional skills and gain work experience.
The National Archives hosted HACU interns in the:
- DC Metro Area
- Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum (Simi Valley, CA)
- Nixon Presidential Materials Staff (Yorba Linda, CA)
- Great Lakes Region (Chicago Regional Office)
The interns represented a variety of universities and academic disciplines from all regions of the United States:
- Sara Boteler, a New Mexico State University graduate with a B.S. in history
- Jennifer Brown, a University of Arizona student majoring in elementary education
- William Garcia, a senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who is working toward his B.S. in political science
- Maritza Gonzalez, a doctoral candidate at the University of Maryland, College Park, pursuing a degree in international education policy
- Christopher Hofius, a senior at California State University, Fullerton, who is pursuing his B.S. in international business and Latin American studies
- Nicole Martinez, a Saint Edward's University graduate who majored in communications with a minor in rhetorical studies
- Candace Newson, a recent graduate of Claflin University with a B.S. in communications
- Erica Rodriguez, a Texas State University junior who is pursuing her B.S. in mass communications
- Tara Umbrino, a Tufts University sophomore majoring in history and Spanish
- Eduardo Uribe, a second-time HACU internship participant and a graduate student at the University of Texas at San Antonio studying history
