Research Statement:

The role of peripheral conversion of thyroid hormone in the modulation of thyroid hormone action: Dr. Celi’s research interest is aimed to the study of the role of the peripheral metabolism of tthyroid hormones, regulated by the deiodinases, in the modulation of the tissue-specificity of thyroid hormone action. Dr. Celi uses both in vitro and cell culture systems as well as human studies. The latter are mainly focused on the study of the interaction between peripheral metabolism of thyroid hormone and glucose, energy, and lipid homeostasis.
