Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (2 cubic feet). This series consists of moving images of recruitment advertisements and public service announcements created by the Joint Advertising Market Research and Studies group to entice young people to enlist or reenlist in all branches of the American Military Service. Armed Forces Epidemiology Board (1 cubic foot). This series consists of moving images and sound recordings made available by the National Mental Health Task Force to assist military personnel in their readjustment to civilian life. These records are open and fully processed. Accession NN3-330-09-003 (ARC 2573257).
Records of the Department of the Army (1,270 cubic feet). This series consists of motion picture films, videos and accompanying production files of the Defense Information Center (DVIC). The films range from 1945 to 1995 and are partially processed. To date 899 cubic feet have been processed; 499 cubic feet were processed this quarter. It was closed because of hazardous waste contamination of air and nearby water supplies. The Environmental Protection Agency was heavily involved in the project which covered the years 1957 to 2007. During the quarter, 23 pages (.010 cubic feet) of recent manuscript acquisitions were accessioned.
Notable archival acquisitions received this quarter include the transcript and tape of an oral history interview of Margaret "Daisy" Suckley in 1977 as part of the Eleanor Roosevelt Oral History Project (deeded by Wilderstein Preservation) and three autograph items donated by William H. Smith.
Also received was a large collection of printed and bound Rooseveltiana donated by Donald S. and Mary D. Carmichael. Included in the gift are books inscribed by FDR and two small volumes that had been part of the President's miniature book collection.
The library also received a collection of 92 Office of War Information photographs depicting World War II. These photographs were donated by John and Susan Harvith.
During the quarter, 122 objects were accessioned into the museum collection: 28 previously unaccessioned items in the collection and 105 new acquisitions.
The new acquisitions include a collection of 74 items related to President Roosevelt (donated by Donald S. and Mary D. Carmichael); a 1934 oil painting of FDR by James Britton (donated by Barbara and Ursula Britton); a series of 7 portraits of Roosevelt family, friends and political associates by artist Samuel J. Woolf (donated by Stuart P. and Sue Feld); 11 pieces of porcelain owned and used by the Roosevelt family (donated by Patrick Hamilton); a group of 11 miscellaneous politically themed FDR items (donated by John Vargo); and an unsolicited FDR campaign pin from an unknown donor.
The printed materials collections added 21 new books, 6 reels of microfilm, 33 periodicals, and 109 vertical file items during the quarter. Also accessioned into the collection were 106 previously unaccessioned books that were identified during the FDR Book Collection project.
Over 7,900 pages were reviewed during the quarter. Reviewing was completed on the following collections which were opened for research this quarter:
- Fred Seaton Papers—Memorabilia and Print Materials Series
- Dwight D. Eisenhower Post-Presidential Papers—Funeral Arrangements and Tributes Series
- Sherman Adams Records—441 of 469 previously donor-restricted pages were released
During the quarter, 50,000 pages of Richard Bissell papers were added to the library holdings.
The library accessioned 20 textual accessions totaling 18.326 cubic feet including:
- The Papers of Stephen E. Smith, businessman, brother-in-law of President Kennedy. Papers related to involvement in the JFK Library Foundation, Bedford-Stuyvesant redevelopment, and the RFK Memorial. About 24 cubic feet. Closed.
- A donation from Senator Edward M. Kennedy of letters or notes written by President Kennedy at various times and JFK's Navy dog tag. Less than one cubic foot. Open.
- An accretion to the Personal Papers of Kenneth O'Donnell. Copies of Presidential campaign schedules for Senator John F. Kennedy created and donated by donor Ray Graham (former volunteer in Mr. O'Donnell's office). 0.126 cubic feet. Open.
- The personal papers of Bernice Kert, author (1964–2005). Research materials relating to her book The Hemingway Women. 18 cubic feet. Closed.

A total of 3,243 photograph items (including 1,095 prints, 1,614 transparencies, 274 black-and-white negatives, and 60 digital images), 24.5 hours of audio, and 19.0 hours of moving images (on 10 DVD discs, three VHS cassettes, three BETA SP tapes, and two Digibeta tapes) were accessioned and described.

The Audiovisual Archives accessioned .264 cubic feet of material from the Technical Services ongoing documentation of LBJ Library events.
During this quarter, the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum formally accessioned video oral histories with former Watergate Special Prosecution Force attorneys Stephen Breyer, Richard Ben-Veniste, and Jill Wine-Banks; counselor to the President Donald Rumsfeld; Senator Lowell Weicker; Congressman Trent Lott; Solicitor General Robert Bork; deputy National Security Adviser Dick Allen; secretary to Charles Colson and Howard Hunt Becky Bovell; White House investigator Jack Caulfield; White House Counsel Charles Colson; Justice Department prosecutor Earl Silbert; IRS commissioner Johnnie Walters; and OEO attorney Terry Lenzner.
The library received two major donations in December. The estate of H. R. Haldeman gave the library 55 Super 8 Films taken by Mr. Haldeman during his tenure in the Nixon administration, along with accompanying textual documentation, which include film logs and notations of film content. And from Mikhail and Stella Berestetsky the library received photographs, desk artifacts, and personal items once used by Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev. Highlights of the over 250 items received include his hunting knife and scabbard, cut crystal table clocks, his personal radio, and Brezhnev's favorite wrist watch. Mr. Berestetsky was a personal friend of Brezhnev's grandson, Andrei Brezhnev, from whom the Berestetskys acquired the collection.
In addition, the curatorial department in Yorba Linda received:
- A portrait of Richard Nixon (gift of Ruby and Haroll Casey Doss, Jr.)
- A 1973 inaugural invitation (gift of Museum Arts & Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley)
- A lunar module tie-down strap used during the Apollo 12 mission (gift of Michael Esslinger)
- Four Apollo 11 buttons (transfer from the LBJ Library)
The library completed work for 10 accessions this quarter, including accretions to the Betty Ford Papers, Melvin Laird Papers, and Composite General Accessions and Composite Grand Rapids Accessions collections.
The library acquired the papers of Michael Moskow, 1969–76 (5 cu. ft), documenting his service in the Ford administration at the Department of Labor, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Council on Wage and Price Stability.
The library acquired papers from Juliette C. McLennan, 1976 (0.4 cu. ft.), relating to her work as Director of the National Volunteer Desk for the President Ford Committee. The material consists of two binders of volunteer lists, state reports, and phone bank reports.
New museum artifact accessions included a collection of Canadian newspapers from 1969–74; a 1973 mounted clipping from the Grand Rapids Press; a 1936 football program; a Gerald R. Ford state funeral plaque; a roll of Gerald R. Ford tissue and two New York Times issues from 1973 and 1974; a collection of 2008 Presidential campaign memorabilia; and clothing worn by Gerald R. Ford. Raymond Guyette donated a scale model of the USS Monterey, in which he painstakingly captured nearly every detail of the ship over one full year of work. It will eventually be added to the museum's core exhibit.
The library continues to receive material from President Carter's Office, John Gunther Dean, and Rupert Cutler. New acquisitions include materials donated from Bruce Laingen, Steve York, and Walt Wurfel.
The library acquired a 7.5-cubic-foot accretion for the records of Faith Ryan Whittlesey. Also, an accession of 1 cubic feet of personal papers for Ambassador Whittlesey was received. The audiovisual department accessioned the 2008 Audio-Visual Composite Collection.

The transcript of a 1977 oral history interview of Margaret "Daisy" Suckley, conducted as part of the Eleanor Roosevelt Oral History Project, was opened to research this quarter. This was one of several interviews from that project that had never been finalized and formally deeded to the library. Wilderstein Preservation, the successor to Miss Suckley, generously deeded the interview to the library, making its transcription and release possible.
