TSX bounds over 10,000

Teck Cominco Ltd. was one of the strongest stocks in Toronto after the company reached a deal to defer US$4.4-billion in debt payments that would’ve been due this year. Teck, along with Research In Motion Ltd. and Bank of Nova Scotia, were the market leaders on Bay Street Tuesday.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark index rose above the 10,000 mark for the first time in six months, posting its fourth straight session of gains after markets were buoyed by an industry report showing fewer job cuts than expected in the U.S.
