Electronic Publishing Specialist

Salary: $45,639 to $79,248

Imaging and Publishing Support (IPS) is looking for a highly motivated, bright, positive, resourceful individual to serve as an Electronic Publishing Specialist. IPS provides a full range of traditional and digital printing and multimedia publications to the CIA's intelligence production and dissemination mission.

The Electronic Publishing Specialist is responsible for the development of publishing products through document formatting of content, graphic manipulation, and source document conversions. These products may be publications, brochures, certificates, flyers or business cards. The Electronic Publishing Specialist has the basic skills to develop source templates for data conversion into established formats. The incumbent should also have the basic knowledge of document conversions for printed products into electronic versions suitable for web. The Electronic Publishing Specialist is responsible for identifying and developing requirements, working with customers to formulate ideas, and assimilate information into a specific style.

The applicant should have a basic knowledge of electronic publications to include the most current technologies in the electronic and web publishing environments. Applicant should also possess a basic knowledge of typography, proofreading, layout, document formatting, desktop publishing, page layout and publication styles. The incumbent should also have some basic knowledge of various software packages such inDesign, Illustrator, Framemaker, Quarkxpress, Adobe Photoshop, and Flash.


Minimum requirements include an associate's degree in the Graphic Arts, or a closely related field, with applicable substitutions for education on a year for year basis, plus two years of progressively responsible experience with desktop publishing technology in the development of templates, manuals, publications, or brochures.

All applicants must successfully complete a thorough medical and psychological exam, a polygraph interview and an extensive background investigation. U.S. citizenship is required.

To be considered suitable for Agency employment, applicants must generally not have used illegal drugs within the last twelve months. The issue of illegal drug use prior to twelve months ago is carefully evaluated during the medical and security processing.
