GOES
Solar X-ray Imager |
2007 March 27: After six months of post-launch testing (PLT), GOES-13 SXI was placed in on-orbit storage on January 5, 2007. It will remain in storage until either thruster fuel is depleted or instrument failure occurs on one of the two currently operational GOES satellites.
In the interim, a detector anomaly that occurred in conjunction with an X-flare in December 2006 is being investigated and operational remedies are being developed. A calibrated set of the imagery taken during PLT is anticipated to be available in the Fall of 2007. Notice of availability will be broadcast to the community, as well as on this website.
