IRS Content & Planned Posting Schedule

The IRS strives to ensure the IRS.gov website contains up-to-date and accurate information that is relevant to our general audience. We also have information that is targeted toward specific audience segments, including: individuals, businesses (large and small), employees, tax professionals, educational institutions, exempt organizations, government entities, independent contractors, international organizations, military, foreign persons, religious organizations, the retirement plan community, the tax exempt bond community, and the media. This list of audience segments is not intended to be exhaustive, but to illustrate the broad spectrum of visitors we hope are coming to our site.

In compliance with Section 207(f)(2) of the E-Government Act of 2002, the IRS has developed an inventory of information to be published on our website, and established a schedule for publishing new information. The table below illustrates the general categories of information currently shown on the IRS.gov website, along with information planned for publishing in the future. It also identifies the priority we have assigned to the information, based on the categories shown in Section 207(f)(2) of the E-Government Act of 2002:

  • 1 = required by law, regulation, Presidential directive, other official directive, or to ensure national security
  • 2 = mission-critical and essential for program operations, but not required by law, regulation, or Presidential directive (that is, information or services that are directly tied to the agency's mission and/or strategic plan)
  • 3 = frequently requested information or services that would improve organization business processes and/or customer service to the public (e.g. most commonly used forms, documents, applications, transactions, etc.)
  • 4 = other information
