Welcome to ASLO!
For more than 50 years, ASLO has been a leading professional organization for researchers and educators in the field of aquatic science, working to provide for their needs at all phases of professional development. ASLO is best known for its highly rated research journals, its interdisciplinary meetings and its special symposia. The society supports increasingly important programs in public education and outreach and public policy. It strives to encourage student participation and to increase opportunities for minorities in the aquatic sciences. ASLO's mission statement is:
ASLO fosters a diverse, international scientific community that creates, integrates and communicates knowledge across the full spectrum of aquatic sciences, advances public awareness and education about aquatic resources and research, and promotes scientific stewardship of aquatic resources for the public interest. Its products and activities are directed toward these ends.
What's New At ASLO!
- Dramatic Decrease in L&O Time to Publication
- L&O articles are now posted on the Web as soon as they are ready for printing; i.e., on a paper-by-paper basis. In the past, individual papers waited until the entire issue was completed. Under the new system L&O papers are being made available on-line up to 2 months earlier.
- L&O Among Top 100 Most Influential Life Sciences Journals
- The Special Libraries Association (SLA), on the occasion of its Centennial, conducted a poll of its BioMedical & Life Sciences Division to identify the 100 most influential journals in Biology and Medicine over the last 100 years. We are very pleased to announce that Limnology and Oceanography is on the list.
- New L&O Issue Posted
- The latest issue of Limnology and Oceanography (Vol 54, Issue 3, 2009) is available online.
- U.S. NSF Division of Ocean Sciences Search for Program Officers
The U.S. NSF Division of Ocean Sciences announces a nationwide search for program officers for the following Programs in the Ocean Section:
-Biological Oceanography (BioOCE),
-Chemical Oceanography (ChemOCE), and
-Physical Oceanography (PhysOCE)
The official Dear Colleague Letter from the NSF can be seen on the NSF website or here on the ASLO website. Applications should include a cover letter, discussing your reasons for interest in the position and your qualifications, as well as a CV.This is a tremendous time to think about serving the ocean science community. The new U.S. administration has a very strong emphasis on basic science, and in particular on science directed toward understanding and predicting the dynamics of the Earth system, and its components. The Directorate for Geosciences is forging exciting and challenging collaborations across its own Divisions (oceans, earth, atmosphere), and with its sister directorates responsible for the biological sciences.
- Call for Proposals to The Edward B. and Phyllis E. Reed Endowment
