The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is requesting nominations for membership in the Information Reporting Program Advisory Committee (IRPAC) for a three-year term beginning January 2010. All applicants must complete an application form and Federal tax check waiver form. In addition, FBI and practitioner (if applicable) checks are required of all applicants. Interested parties may nominate themselves or another qualified person for membership. Nominations will be accepted for the nine current vacancies and should describe and document the applicant’s qualifications for membership. IRPAC is comprised of no more than 35 members. It is important that the IRPAC continue to represent a diverse taxpayer and stakeholder base. Accordingly, to maintain membership diversity, selection is based on applicant’s qualifications as well as the segment or group he/she represents.
The IRPAC advises the IRS on information reporting and administration issues of mutual concern to the private sector and the federal government. The committee works with the IRS Commissioner and other IRS leadership to provide recommendations on a wide range of information reporting administration issues. An annual report is presented to the IRS Commissioner at a public meeting. Membership is balanced to include representation from industries including insurance, banking, the tax professional community, small and large businesses, colleges and universities, state tax administrations, software, foreign financial institutions and the payroll community.
IRPAC members meet in Washington, DC, approximately five times a year for two-day sessions. Members are not paid for their services. However, travel expenses for working sessions, public meetings and orientation sessions, such as airfare, per diem, and transportation are reimbursed within prescribed federal travel limitations.
