Centers for Public Health Preparedness (CPHP) program

Network Activities

Collaboration Group Activities
The purpose of the CPHP collaboration group activities was to enhance collaboration across the CPHP Network and with CDC, to minimize duplication in development of materials, and to maximize outreach of existing resources. The collaborative groups were comprised of CPHP faculty experts and one or two CDC Staff Experts as needed. Groups were convened based on similar work, interest, and expertise related to preparedness topics, education methods, or critical audiences. A staff member from the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) coordinated each group and provided logistical support to ensure successful collaboration (i.e. meeting schedules, conference call set-up, minutes, etc).

Two types of collaboration group activities occurred during the FY 2004 program year – Exemplar Groups and Short-term Collaboration groups. For the FY 2005 program year, there were 20 Collaboration Groups and for FY 2006 there were 11 groups.  Each CPHP was required to participate in at least 1 Collaboration Group.

Each group was charged to develop CPHP Education Resource Guides that both the CPHP network and the workforce can use to navigate the myriad training resources CPHP offer and/or learn from the many lessons CPHP have experienced in training and education for public health preparedness.  CPHP Education Resource Guides are written compilations comprised of comparative descriptions of national preparedness resources, developed from existing CPHP materials and programs. The Resource Guides primarily consist of CPHP resources.  However, some Resource Guides include other critical or noteworthy resources developed by experts outside of the CPHP network.

Resource Center
To maximize outreach of all CPHP-developed preparedness education materials CDC and the Association of Schools of Public Heath (ASPH) have developed an online CPHP Resource Center. Available via the Internet, the Resource Center provides users with access to CPHP-developed educational programs, course materials, slide notes, etc., for adoption and/or adaptation by CPHP program participants and their partners.

CPHP Program participants are required to publish education and training resources to the Resource Center. Each resource must contain a description of the preparedness education course or program that clearly identifies the resource's shareable aspect. In addition to publishing resources, CPHPs should include ongoing updates to their resources, such as:

  • Course / Program Title;
  • Abstract / description that includes topics covered, intended audience, teaching methods;
  • Learning Objectives and/or Competencies;
  • Links to specific course or program available on the CPHP’s website;
  • Comprehensive course outline, slides and speaker notes, and contact person; and,
  • Evaluation tools and Reports on key findings.

Preparedness Education Calendar
Additionally, ASPH provides users with an up-to-date Preparedness Education Calendar. This calendar lists preparedness training and education offered by CPHPs including conferences, institutes, and other scheduled educational offerings that are open for enrollment. CPHP Program participants should publish all applicable course offerings to the Preparedness Education Calendar.
