Directions
The Washington National Records Center is located in the Suitland Federal Complex in Suitland, Maryland, approximately 7 miles east of the Capitol. A government issued photo ID must be presented to the security guards in order to enter.
By Car From the Capital Beltway:
Take the Pennsylvania Avenue exit 11,
north/west toward the District of Columbia.
At the fifth traffic signal, turn left onto Silver Hill Road.
At the third traffic signal, turn right onto Suitland Road.
Go approximately 1 mile,
turn left just before the large water tower
into the last entrance to the Suitland Federal Complex.
By Car from Downtown Washington, DC:
Take Pennsylvania Avenue east and across the Anacostia River. Near the District of Columbia border with Maryland, turn right onto Southern Avenue. At the first traffic light, turn left onto Suitland Road. The entrance to the Suitland Federal Complex will be on the right, past the Washington National Cemetery and near the communications tower.
Free visitor parking is available at WNRC.
Public Transportation:
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) bus system serves the general area, but all stops are located some distance from the building. The closest Metrorail station is the Suitland Station on the Green line. Take any Green line train traveling in the direction of Branch Avenue. The Suitland Station is the second to the last stop on the line. It also is located some distance from the WNRC. Please note: The Suitland Federal Complex shuttle from the subway station has been discontinued. For more information on public transportation in the Washington, D.C. area, please consult the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority web site http://www.wmata.com.
Prince George's County operates a transportation network of buses (The Bus) throughout the County independent of the Washington Metro system. The Bus Route 34 provides community service from the Suitland Metrorail Station to the local area including a Suitland Road stop near the Suitland Federal Complex gate closest to the WNRC. To reach the buses from the rail platform, take the escalator or the elevator up one level and exit the station.
