SWPC currently receives data from 59 stations. New stations are added as resources permit. o A compressed binary file, /iono_day/iono_day.tar.gz, containing all daily files, is created hourly at 25 and 55 minutes past the hour. o Data are received at in two formats: IUWDS and SAO + IUWDS format is an 5-digit coded text format. For a format description, visit http://www.ises-spaceweather.org/codebook/codebook/ufofs__etc_.html See sections on UFOFH (foF2) and UFESH (foEs). Currently 4 Chinese stations report in IUWDS format for foF2 only: Beijing,Chongqing, Guangzhou, and Manzhouli - foF2, foEs, M3000 and Fmin parameters may be reported. - Stations report hourly values once a day. - If no data were received, hourly values are set to -1. - Data lists for IUWDS stations are updated hourly at 30 minutes past the hour. - The station description line in each file includes the station name, country, geographic location in parentheses and IUWDS, e.g. Ashkhabad, Turkmenistan (N37E58) IUWDS + SAO (Standard Archiving Output) files contain the scaled data for 1 ionogram. For details visit http://ulcar.uml.edu/framesd.htm - The Scaled Ionospheric Characteristics Elements within the SAO records contain up to 49 parameters. SWPC displays 15 of these: foF2, hmF2, M(D), D, h'F, yF2, fMUF, h', fxI, foF1, foE, hmE, foEs, fbEs, ITEC. For details on these parameters, go to http://ulcar.uml.edu/~iag/SAO-4.htm#TABLE6 - Stations report in near real-time and usually provide 5-, 15-, 30-, or hour values. These cadences, however, can vary. - If no data are received during the period, the first data line contains "No data available." - Data list files for SAO stations are updated twice an hour at 25 and 55 minutes past the hour. - The station description line in each file includes the station name, geographic location, operator*-Digisonde model or Dynasonde**, e.g. Ascension Island S07E014 AFRL-DPS-4 o SWPC provides near-real-time data in Daily Ionospheric Data lists + Daily files - are in the directory /pub/lists/iono_day/ - contain up to two days of data beginning at 0000 UTC on the previous day and ending with latest value for the current day. - are named as "Station_iono.txt", e.g., Learmonth_iono.txt - A compressed binary file, /iono_day/iono_day.tar.gz, contains all the daily files and is created at 25 and 55 minutes past the hour. * Operators AFRL - Air Force Research Laboratory http://www.plh.af.mil - and Boulder Colorado http://ionosphere.boulder.noaa.gov IAP - Leibniz - Institute of Atmospheric Physics University of Rostok, Germany http://www.ionosonde.iap-kborn.de/indexeng.htm IPS - Ionospheric Prediction Service, Sydney Australia http://www.ips.gov.au/ ING - Istituto Nazionale de Geofiscia, Rome Italy http://www.ingrm.it/ NOA - National Obervatory of Athens, Athens Greece http://www.iono.noa.gr/ UMLCAR - University of Massachusetts, Lowell, Center of Atmospheric Research Lowell, Massachusetts, USA http://ulcar.uml.edu Rhodes University - Grahamstown, South Africa http://www.ru.ac.za/ Utah State University - Logan, Utah, USA http://www.sdl.usu.edu/capabilities/science/bearLake/Dynasonde/Dynasonde EISCAT - European Incoherent SCATter Tromso, Norway http://www.eiscat.uit.no/dynasond.html IRF - Swedish Institute of Space Physics Kiruna, Sweden http://www.irf.se RWC Moscow - Regional Warning Center, Moscow, Russia http://www.geospace.ru/ ** The Digisonde models can be found at http://ulcar.uml.edu/Stationlist.html#models The Dynasonde can be explained at http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/stp/IONO/Dynasonde/ ============================================================================== ============ Sample DAILY Ionospheric Data List File ==================== :Product: Dyess_iono.txt :Issued: 2007 Nov 27 2325 UTC # Prepared by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, NOAA, Space Weather Prediction Center # Please send comments and suggestions to SWPC.Webmaster@noaa.gov # # Units for foF2, MUF(D), foEs, foE, fMUF, foF1, fxI & fbEs = MHz # Units for yF2, D, hmE, h'F, h' & hmF2 = km # Units for TEC = 10^16 el/m^2 # Missing data: -1.0,-1,-1.00 # # Real-Time Ionosonde Data # Dyess N32E260 AFRL-DGS-256 # # UT Date Time # YR MO DA HHMM foF2 hmF2 M(D) D h'F yF2 fMUF h' fxI foF1 foE hmE foEs fbEs ITEC #------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2007 11 26 1630 5.2 230 3.93 3000 171 93 5.0 245 5.9 3.9 2.6 100 2.9 -1.0 8.3 2007 11 26 1645 5.4 260 3.39 3000 185 35 5.3 330 6.1 4.3 2.8 100 2.8 -1.0 6.2 2007 11 26 1700 5.4 245 3.72 3000 190 87 5.3 280 6.1 4.0 2.9 100 2.9 -1.0 7.7 2007 11 26 1715 5.8 255 3.53 3000 192 50 5.5 290 6.5 4.1 2.9 95 3.1 -1.0 7.2 2007 11 26 1730 5.8 240 3.74 3000 182 -1 5.6 270 6.6 3.9 3.1 105 3.1 -1.0 -1.0 2007 11 26 1800 6.2 240 3.57 3000 205 46 5.9 285 6.9 4.1 3.0 100 3.0 -1.0 7.3 2007 11 26 1815 6.2 220 3.87 3000 220 45 5.8 240 6.9 3.4 2.9 105 2.9 -1.0 6.5 2007 11 26 1830 5.5 235 3.76 3000 200 80 5.4 275 6.3 4.1 3.0 110 3.0 -1.0 7.6 2007 11 26 1845 5.2 245 3.54 3000 185 72 4.6 255 5.9 4.1 3.0 110 3.0 -1.0 6.8 2007 11 26 1900 5.9 235 3.80 3000 160 -1 5.6 255 6.6 4.0 3.0 100 3.0 -1.0 -1.0 2007 11 26 1915 5.8 210 3.68 3000 192 73 5.1 235 6.5 4.1 2.9 95 2.9 -1.0 7.9 2007 11 26 1930 5.6 255 3.60 3000 182 80 5.1 260 6.4 4.0 3.0 95 3.0 -1.0 8.4 2007 11 26 1945 6.2 240 3.49 3000 185 69 5.5 270 6.8 3.9 2.9 105 2.9 -1.0 8.8 2007 11 26 2000 6.2 250 3.66 3000 170 50 6.0 290 6.8 3.8 2.9 105 2.9 -1.0 7.4 2007 11 26 2015 6.1 225 3.75 3000 174 52 5.5 245 6.8 4.0 2.8 100 2.8 -1.0 6.7 2007 11 26 2030 5.9 230 3.38 3000 190 62 5.2 275 6.6 3.6 2.7 95 2.7 -1.0 7.8 2007 11 26 2045 6.0 -1 3.85 3000 225 39 5.9 265 6.8 -1.0 2.6 100 2.6 -1.0 5.5 2007 11 26 2145 5.8 -1 3.71 3000 215 56 5.5 265 6.5 -1.0 2.4 105 2.9 -1.0 6.3 2007 11 26 2200 5.8 -1 3.92 3000 210 40 5.5 240 6.6 -1.0 2.3 105 2.9 -1.0 4.9 2007 11 26 2215 5.4 -1 3.75 3000 210 62 4.9 240 6.2 -1.0 2.0 110 2.6 -1.0 5.8 2007 11 26 2230 5.6 -1 3.75 3000 215 74 5.2 250 6.3 -1.0 2.5 95 2.8 -1.0 7.4 ... ============================================================================================= ANNOUNCEMENTS: November 2008 -- Five New Stations Added 3 Dynasonde Stations Discontinued November 12, 2008 Millstone Hill data has resumed The following stations were added Anyang, Korea; Dourbes, Belgium; Tromso, Norway; Hermanus, South Africa; Cocos Island, Australia The following Dynasonde stations were discontinued Bear Lake, Tromso, Lycksele Note: The new Tromso file contains digisonde data.
